Nuyakuk HydroElectric Proposal
Nushagak Cooperative has proposed a hydroelectric project on the Nuyakuk River Falls northwest of Koliganek.
The area is entirely within the Wood-Tikchik State Park, the largest state park in the country. The Nushagak Cooperative seeks to develop the project in order to provide electricity to Dillingham, Aleknagik, Koliganek, New Stuyahok, Ekwok and Levelock.

CFBB does not support or oppose the proposed Nuyakuk Hydroelectric project.
Since the potential benefits and impacts of the proposal are still being studied, and to uphold our commitment to protect fish habitat and our commercial fishery, at this stage we are actively reviewing the studies, and advocating for public engagement and a transparent and thorough scientific review. CFBB is working with a team of technical experts to review the ongoing studies on potential impacts and benefits of the project.

Feasibility Studies of the proposed Nuyakuk Hydroelectric project are closed for comment.
In early 2025, Nushagak Cooperative released for comment two years of Research on the potential impacts of their proposed Nuyakuk Hydro-Electric project. This was an important step in the Federal Licensing process for the project allowing for public input on the assessment of potential impacts to fish and wildlife, places of cultural significance and economic impacts.
The release of this “Updated Study Report” kicked off an open comment period to give the public opportunity to weigh in on the studies in which CFBB collected comments.
We appreciate all input and comments submitted. It is important to ensure any risks to salmon habitat posed by Nushagak Cooperative’s proposed Nuyakuk Hydroelectric project are fully assessed.
